We arrived at the show with the sun shining, the previous day being one of the hottest of the year. Soon many people started to arrive. Jeremy joined John a little later. Jeremy had some good conversations with a number of Jewish families who were from Manchester and London. We had a good chat with the adjoining stall holder who was a born again believer selling garden furniture. We were happy to be introduced to the Chairman and President of the show. We then had a good talk to two young mothers inviting 'A' to visit us at our church in Kirkby Stephen where one of her friends attends, leaving us with the Family Matters leaflet.
We gave many leaflets to families visiting the show from Derbyshire, Newcastle, Dumfries. The young people enjoying having a go at the Guessing box leaving with Josh and Jade stories, what a great way to share the gospel. Appleby show is also a great place to meet many local friends and families and witness to them.
A young lady spoke to us saying she was a Christian but her mother was not happy about her witnessing. John shared that God was not a bully but gently knocks on the door of our lives waiting for us to open the door.
A young man from Penrith shared about his struggles as a Christian, with mental health difficulties, we encouraged him to go back to church for their support.
A couple from Holland showed real interest in the way of salvation accepting The secret of Life's Meaning. Others enjoying the horse jumping were pleased to take Eternity Stakes with the horses on the front cover, others taking Bible texts with pictures of horses.
Later in the day, a young lady came up to the Van choosing leaflets such as 'Start Again' and had a long talk to John but had not understood how to be saved, but now really wanting to know the way of salvation, it was a joy to share the gospel with her, explaining from 'The Missing Peace' booklet as she came to the point of making a decision her friends came for her. Do pray she will give her life to the Lord.
We left praising the Lord for the Joy of sowing the good seed of the Word in so many hearts.
