Hesket New Market is one of the smaller shows held in the County but is a show that is well supported. The area around Hesket Newmarket contains a number of evangelical churches and the local believers are always very faithful in making themselves known and passing on words of encouragement to those on the CGO stand. One local evangelical church had a refreshment tent near to CGO’s position and it was good to have fellowship with them.
The weather remained sunny and hot all day and this encouraged many to visit the show. The afternoon was particularly busy and there were many children and young people anxious to try their luck with the Guessing Box. Rusty was kept busy explaining the connection of the items in the Box to various Bible stories. There were times when there were queues of young people waiting their turn to access the Box. This gave opportunities to speak to any adults accompanying children and give literature explaining the way of salvation.
One middle aged lady who came to the van mentioned that she had visited the CGO van at other shows in the County. She lived in Bury but enjoyed travelling and visiting a number of shows in Cumbria. During the conversation she declared that she did regularly attend a church but was not certain as to the ‘’way back to God’’. It appeared that she was relying on her church to secure her eternal future rather than the one who is the author of our salvation. She was happy to accept the booklet ‘’God’s Story’’.
One gentleman attracted to the literature display spent some time looking at what was available. After having recently suffered the loss of a close brother, he was particularly interested in what happens after death. After a long conversation he left with the tracts ‘’Pathway to Peace’’ and ‘’Reason to Believe’’.
During the day many tracts were handed out. The seed has been sown and we leave it to our Lord for the increase in the harvest.
