Market Co-ordinator’s Report - 2010

Post date: Jul 07, 2010 11:48:38 PM

After the very cold winter that we have all experienced we are quite amazed at the number of Saturdays that we have been able to attend the Keswick market stall. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to speak to complete strangers about the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.  I quote an Open Air preacher we heard during the winter that said, “God saves in the winter as well as the summer” This encouraged us to stand on the market whatever the weather.

Daphne and I were expecting to be available for one or two more Saturdays each month over the winter to fill in the empty spaces. It isn’t easy when it is wet and cold to stand for hours talking and trying to make conversation. But, God is so good, He has moved the heart of one or two more volunteers and we have a good rota system going. One helper coming down from Gretna for a couple of Saturdays each month is so keen to witness to the passer-by and to hand out tracts. We will miss our beloved brother David Locke during the coming summer months, with that special gift that he had of communicating the Gospel to others.

In spite of the cold, or should I say because of the cold, we have had good conversations, especially with other stallholders. We had a conversation with a man who was a Jehovah’s Witness, he came over rather strong and loud and told us never to say that Jesus was God. The man on the stall next to us was ready to come to our aid. When we told the stallholder what the man was saying, it was just an amazing opportunity to tell him that Jesus IS God the Son and His Father sent Him into the world to save sinners.

After the November floods we had several good conversations. It is good to remind ourselves that whatever the conditions and situations we find ourselves in, God is still in control of all things. Our Loving Heavenly Father knows what we need before we even ask or think. He needs to be our first place to make requests, to share our problems and to give our thanks; helping to direct people to the one true source of Abundant Life is our hope and prayer.

We may never see some of the folks again that we speak to or communicate with in Keswick and maybe never know if someone comes to trust the Saviour, but we stand as Christ’s Ambassadors with the whole armour of God. Ephesians Ch 6.

We thank you for your prayers and ask you to continue praying. The fields are white unto harvest and God is still Building His Church.
