A celebration for the life of John was held in Penrith on February 4th.  Although known latterly for his work in spreading the Gospel via radio and the internet from studios in Penrith John’s involvement with Cumbria goes back to a time when Cumberland and Westmorland still existed as counties, in fact to 1948. When as a young Evangelist he spent the summer months working with the “van”.His full impact on the county and local churches will only be revealed in eternity but many of us have happy memories of an energetic and gifted preacher and teacher.  From Bible Schools at Silloth, childrens’ meeting, open air preaching, tent campaigns in villages throughout the county, John’s mission to preach the word has been an example and stimulus to many of us.

In the late 60’s John’ attention turned increasingly to radio work and his recorded addresses have been heard in many parts of the world.  Never a sluggard when it came to new technology John embraced internet opportunities and has had the joy, before his death of seeing the work of Radio Outreach become accessible worldwide through the web.

We shall miss his involvement with the county and I’m sure the folk meeting at the Gospel Hall in penrith will miss him also.

With thanks to God for a faithful brother.
