Appleby Gypsy Fair - June 2022

APPLEBY GYPSY FAIR  -  JUNE 9th – 12th  2002

Friday

Once again Appleby Gypsy Fair took place in June after a few years break due to Covid restrictions.  By kind permission of the Methodist Church we were able to park our van at the entrance of their Car Park on the Sands.  John arrived with the van to be joined by David Garnett and Tony Allison.  It was also great to have the help of the team from  Northern Ireland and some from the Republic of Ireland.

‘B’ was one of the many R.S.P.A. workers who passed us on the way to their office in the church schoolroom, she happily talked to us and accepted ‘The Secret of Life’s  Meaning.’

A young lady from Estonia spent a long time talking about Jesus and salvation.  David used the message on the back of one of the pictures to explain the Gospel.

A Mother and Daughter from Lancaster stopped to talk and took ‘Eternity Stakes’ and other leaflets.

A couple from Stockton were seeking help, we explained what it meant to be ‘Born Again.’   We gave them ‘A Man’s Best Friend’ and ‘Eternity Stakes’ and were so appreciative of us talking to them.  Pray they will be saved.

What a joy to meet a dear couple from Devon, ‘J’ is a believer but ‘G’ had talked to us previous years but still was not saved.  What a joy as he came to us saying he had given his life to the Lord after coming to our Evening Service  last year and speaking to the Irish friends.  With a smile on his face, he said, “I cannot believe the difference to my life.”  Praise God.

Saturday

William from Acklington who we met at Keswick Market called to encourage us.

‘S’ stopped to talk, we explained how God knocks at the door of your life, no pressure, he listened as we encouraged him to open his life to the Lord Jesus.  We gave him the leaflet ‘Someone is knocking at your Door’ and the ‘Purpose of Life.’

John met ‘J’ and her husband who used to live in Kirkby Stephen, pray they will come to the church.

We shared with a group of young people the Gospel and testimonies of young people whose lives have been changed, they had been watching the horses in the River.  They were amazed to learn the change and transformation of a life given to Jesus.  They happily took leaflets ‘The Purpose of Life’ and ‘Eternity Stakes.’

Many leaflets were given out as hundreds of people passed by.

‘R’ was standing near the van while his wife watched the horses and John was able to share with him the Gospel, explaining the need of forgiveness and salvation.  His wife who had also been listening said she was interested and went to the van to choose leaflets where Anne (one of the Irish team) prayed with her leaving her with a Bible and Testament.  They have since contacted us saying how much they appreciated talking with us.  Pray this seeking couple with find Jesus.

Ronnie McCracken and his team spent many hours witnessing to the Travellers in the fields where their caravans are parked.

On returning home, Ronnie had a call from a Travelling Man who had not been to Appleby Fair for 15 years as it was all drink and more drink.  This year he found himself in the Tent on Sunday morning when Ronnie was speaking, his 3 children went to the front for Prayer.  He said as Ronnie was speaking to the children he had a strange feeling and then all my burdens and sins fell off me.  I know I was saved.  What a privilege for Ronnie to send the man helpful literature to help him in his new walk with the Lord.  Praise the Lord.
