Chairman’s Report - 2010

Post date: Jul 07, 2010 11:57:3 PM

2010 arrived with the coldest weather for decades. Extreme weather has in many ways dominated the past year in our County. Carlisle Show was cancelled due to flooding as was the North Lonsdale Show, also Eric and Daphne Bouch attended Keswick Show and experienced the Van having to be towed on and off the field, followed later by the devastating floods at Cockermouth, Keswick, Workington and the surrounding areas.

We praise the Lord for the great times we spent with the “Travelling” people at Appleby Fair. It was a joy to talk to one man who accepted Jesus as his Saviour, not forgetting all the Shows and regular Markets at Keswick and Penrith. Our thanks to all our helpers. I am sure you will be encouraged as you read the Reports. I am always amazed at the many people we have the privilege of sharing the Gospel with not only those living in Cumbria but from all over the World.

God willing we will be celebrating 100 years of Gospel Outreach in Cumbria in 2012. To God be the Glory.

We do appreciate the prayer and support of our dear brothers and sisters in Cumbria and further afield.

We were all saddened to learn of the homecall of our dear brother David Locke who so faithfully served the Lord with CGO for 35 years – we are indebted to our brother Syd Nixon for kindly writing a tribute to David. We much appreciate the support and help of Jeanette and family in the work over the years. Our prayers and sympathy are with Jeanette and the family in their time of sadness and loss.

Many thanks to our Committee and Trustees who have done a sterling job over the last 12 months – Eric and Daphne co-ordinating the work on the Markets and David Johnstone as Treasurer, not forgetting our Secretary, Stephen Graham and Stephen Hind for updating and organising the web site. A warm welcome to Robbie Williamson from Gretna who is helping on a regular basis – we are still looking for new helpers.

We hear so much today about climate change but how reassuring to know our God who we trust is always the same – our trust is in a Great Unchanging God. At this time, as we battle through this cold Winter weather, may we go forward working together in sharing the warmth of our Saviour’s love to many aching and cold hearts in 2010 - .What a Challenge!
